Aluminum Milling Machine uses specialized head.

Press Release Summary:

Manufactured to any size and level of automation, FZ Aluminum Milling Machine employs heavy-duty SPL milling head with integrated clutches to clamp axis positions for aluminum and rapid prototyping. Gearless and absolutely rigid torque motor drives C axis; compact, zero backlash Harmonic Drive drives B axis; and linear motor drives for X and Y axes minimize cycle times due to dynamic movements between cuts. There are no limits on travel distance, so any machine size can be configured.

Geiss LLC Introduces New FZ Aluminum Milling Machine at IMTS 2010

Durham, CT . . . Geiss LLC will introduce its new FZ Aluminum Milling Machinewith SPL head at IMTS - The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2010 being held at Chicago's McCormick Place September 13-18. Geiss LLC is in Booth #S-8056 which is located in the South Building, Metal Cutting Processes Pavilion.

Newly developed by Geiss, the heavy duty fast moving SPL milling head for aluminum and rapid prototyping is now available and will be on display at the show. Designed exclusively for Aluminum, we have doubled the speed of the B-axis and C-axis compared with heads developed for steel milling. The milling head has integrated clutches to clamp axis positions. A gearless and absolutely rigid torque motor with extremely high acceleration drives the C-axis. The B-axis is driven by a compact zero backlash Harmonic Drive.

Enhancing the performance of the newly developed SPL head is the addition of Linear Motor drives for the X-axis and Y-axis. Linear Motors provide high accelerations, an increase in accuracy and are almost maintenance free. They provide shorter cycle times than any other drive system due to the dynamic movements between cuts. There are no limits on the travel distance so any machine size can be configured.

Geiss' parametric design philosophy means the machine can be manufactured in any size with any level of automation, and with up to 400 options depending on the material and application for milling and trimming.
