AirTight SpectraGuard Renews Common Criteria Certification

First and Only WIPS Certified to IDS System Protection Profile
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.- AirTight® Networks, the global leader in secure Wi-Fi solutions, today announced that the current release of its industry-leading wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS), SpectraGuard® Enterprise Version 6.5, has achieved Common Criteria (CC) certification, under the IDS System Protection Profile. This facilitates continued SpectraGuard deployment in Government and defense networks to protect from airborne information security threats. The product was tested and evaluated independently by CygnaCom Solutions Inc., an accredited test lab in the U.S.
Common Criteria is an internationally standardized framework for matching end-user security requirements with vendor product specifications. For the United States., the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy No. 11 mandates that agencies reporting to the Executive Branch use Common Criteria-evaluated equipment and software for networks carrying sensitive information. In the U.S, National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) of National Security Agency (NSA) oversees product evaluation for CC certification. These CC certificates are accepted by Governments in all CC member countries. NIAP also defines set of requirements called Protection Profiles (PPs) under which products are evaluated for compliance.
"Our Government customers need their wireless security systems to meet the IDS System PP. Some of them have a 'no-Wi-Fi' policy and those who had installed CC compliant Wi-Fi infrastructure could meet only WLAN Access System PP, since Wi-Fi infrastructure from major vendors is not certified to IDS System PP," said Dr. Hemant Chaskar, VP of Technology and Innovation for AirTight Networks. "Now by overlaying AirTight's industry leading SpectraGuard WIPS on any Wi-Fi infrastructure, they are able to meet the IDS System PP for wireless security in their networks, as well as using SpectraGuard for no-Wi-Fi policy enforcement."

In addition to Common Criteria, AirTight SpectraGuard is also certified to FIPS 140-2 standard. It is also included in the DISA's Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Product List (APL) for U.S. DoD deployments.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) established the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) to evaluate IT product conformance to the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, an international standard. The program, officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) is a partnership between the public and private sectors to help organizations select commercial off-the-shelf information technology (IT) products that meet their security requirements and to help manufacturers of those products gain acceptance in the global marketplace.
