Trip-free mechanism handles up to 50A
Chicago, IL, April 2006 - E-T-A Circuit Breakers announces the 5140, a high-performance, three pole circuit breaker answering the need for higher current capacity in less space and with less weight. Even with optional auxiliary contacts, a 5140 breaker weighs just 150 grams - 10% less than competing devices. Considering the hundreds of circuit breakers used in commercial airliners, the cumulative weight reduction achieved by using the 5140 is a substantial benefit to aircraft designers.

The 5140 circuit breaker is available in current ratings from 20 to 50 A on three phases at 200 V and 400 Hz. It is temperature compensated in the range from -67 to +194°F (-55 to +90°C) and qualified to operate in ambient temperatures up to 257°F (125°C).Typical life is 5000 mechanical cycles and 2500 inductive cycles, assuring long, reliable service.
Optional auxiliary contacts provide additional signaling up to 0.5 A at 28 Vdc. Other options and accessories include thread neck size selection, terminal hardware, actuator extension and identification collars.
A single-pole version is also available (Type 4140).
Applications
The 5140 circuit breaker carries full ASNE and NSA approvals for all aircraft applications, including military requirements under the COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) program. It is also suitable for rugged ground vehicles and boats where high-performance circuit protection is required.
