ADCO Circuits Adds More Ersa Selective Soldering from Murray Percival

Constantly evolving electronic packaging technologies demand that contract electronic manufacturing companies monitor the equipment marketplace to meet new challenges. High mix EMS provider ADCO Circuits recently evaluated and purchased a second Ersa selective soldering machine.

In order to deliver the most cost effective solution for mixed technology assemblies with significant numbers of throughhole devices, ADCO process engineers needed shorter process times without compromising quality.

ADCO President Archie Damman explained further. “We’ve been in business for 32 years, and our team knew that the “old way” was not the answer. More people hand soldering and /or wave soldering with selective pallets was going to overwhelm our capacity and undermine our quality.”

“With our existing Versa Ecoselect 2 we were able to benchmark performance and develop cost models for anticipated throughput on a new Versaflow 3/45 machine. We knew what the soldering time would be because of our experience with the solder nozzle. With Ersa’s modular design our engineers could specify a configuration that would meet our capacity goals and keep us on budget. Ultimately, we may be able to enhance the flexibility of the Versaflow 3/45 machine by adding additional modules that can entirely eliminate a wavesoldering system.”

Ersa’s in-line 345 handles 3 boards in the system at one time which allows three operations to be performed at once; fluxing, pre-heating and soldering. It also features a board warpage sensor that will adjust pot height as needed, an automatic nozzle cleaning system, and reduced maintenance compared to other available designs.
