Original Press Release:

Automatic Wake-Up Call for Plant Maintenance

The new Simatic Teleservice Adapter IE from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) facilitates cost-effective remote maintenance of machinery and plants. In acute service cases or emergencies, an e-mail can be sent via the device. The engineer then scans the plant status via remote connection and carries out modifications.

A new version of the Simatic Teleservice Adapter with an Industrial-Ethernet interface has been added to the already available versions with MPI, Profibus-DP and PP interface, so CPUs with Profinet interfaces can now also be serviced efficiently via Teleservice. The industry-standard device is installed on a mounting rail and powered by an external 24-volt supply. Access to the automation network is via a secure connection between the telephone network and the Teleservice Adapter, additionally protected by login and password. Password protection is supplemented with the call back function in which the adapter does not establish the connection until it has returned a call to a defined number. The integral firewall is pre-parameterized for automation tasks and clears only the previously defined services.
