NOVA Chemicals Introduces ZYLAR® 631 Acrylic Copolymer

Pittsburgh, PA - NOVA Chemicals Corporation today announced the commercialization of ZYLAR® 631, a clear, tough resin for injection molding applications. The latest addition to the fast-growing line of ZYLAR resins, ZYLAR 631 delivers an optimal combination of strength and clarity in applications ranging from medical devices to housewares.

"ZYLAR 631 offers molders and part designers the crisp clarity of our clearest grades, combined with the impact toughness of our toughest grades. It is simply the best product in our standout group of ZYLAR resins," said Holly Wilson-Jene, Marketing Director, Styrenics.

An alternative to polycarbonate, clear ABS and impact acrylic, ZYLAR 631 delivers superior value through its density advantage, which results in more parts per pound versus other clear resins. In addition, energy and labor costs associated with processing are up to 40% lower than competing materials. These benefits make ZYLAR 631 ideal for injection molding applications such as medical devices, floor-care appliances, cosmetics packaging, commercial dispensers and point-of-purchase displays.

"Early customer response to ZYLAR 631 has been very positive. Molders and part designers appreciate its ease of processing and its excellent product performance - even in the most demanding applications," said Wilson-Jene.

NOVA Chemicals' ZYLAR business has grown nearly 30 percent per year, on average for the past five years as customers discover the advantages of ZYLAR resins, which include reduced cycle times, lower processing temperatures and reduced energy and labor costs. To support this rapid demand growth, NOVA Chemicals has added a new, twin-screw extruder that improves production capacity, efficiency and quality, and enables enhanced custom color matching. ZYLAR resins, including the new ZYLAR 631, are now available throughout North America and Europe through both direct sales channels and distributors.
