Access Construction Reference Standards Direct from Specifications

Latest BSD SpecLink® update includes 5,300 more hyperlinks to the IHS Standards Store, enabling users to view and purchase referenced documents directly

ATLANTA and ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 6-- Building Systems Design, Inc. (BSD) of Atlanta and IHS Inc. (http://www.ihs.com/) announced today the release of the Fall 2006 edition of BSD SpecLink®, which includes thousands of additional hyperlinks to the IHS Standards Store.

BSD SpecLink is a software product used by thousands of architects, engineers and other design professionals to produce and maintain detailed construction specifications nationwide. Built on an underlying relational database structure instead of word processing, SpecLink includes guide text for hundreds of building product categories and includes references to thousands of construction industry standards from 186 separate organizations. SpecLink references these industry standards instead of repeating relevant content, keeping the guide text and edited project specifications more concise. Prior to BSD's arrangement with IHS, architects and engineers who needed access to the actual reference standards had to acquire them by contacting each organization separately.

Under an initial agreement with IHS, BSD provided hyperlinks to most of the 2,300 referenced documents from the complete citation in each specification section via the IHS Standards Store. Only about 300 standards are not available through IHS, and in those cases the hyperlinks lead to the sponsoring organization's website. In the current SpecLink release, an additional 5,300 hyperlinks have been inserted at paragraphs where the standards are actually mentioned. In most cases, a synopsis of the standard is available on the IHS website where the document itself can be purchased and downloaded online for immediate viewing.

Because BSD SpecLink is comprehensively updated each quarter and IHS maintains both current and previously issued editions of the standards in its databases, SpecLink users are assured that their construction specifications are up-to-date and synchronized with the appropriate reference standard editions.
