Yaskawa's New F7 AC Drive: Versatile Industrial Workhorse

NEW BERLIN, Wis., March 14, 2003 - - Yaskawa's new F7 general purpose AC drive is designed and built to be an industrial workhorse capable of handling virtually every industrial plant application.

Designed for tough industrial environments, this rugged and reliable new drive brings precise control and advanced features to industrial applications from simple variable torque pumping to sophisticated networked material handling.

Normal and Heavy Duty Ratings
The new F7 utilizes a flexible design platform to provide both Normal and Heavy Duty ratings, four modes of control, network communication options, application-specific drive software, and an array of standard and optional input/output choices.

The dual ratings enable the most economical match of overload capacity for the specific application. For example, the drive provides overload capacity of 150% for one minute in the Heavy Duty rating and 110% for one minute in the Normal Duty rating. Starting torque is a robust 150% in either rating.

Achieving an MTBF in excess of 28 years, the F7 utilizes surface mounted technology for exceptional dependability. Circuit burn-in is at 185°C, with testing carried out on fully-loaded motors.

Four Control Techniques
To provide the optimum control method, the F7 can operate in conventional V/f, V/f with encoder feedback, open loop vector, or closed loop vector mode.

An exceptional variety of design features and options makes the F7 the most versatile drive on the market -- applicable in an incredibly wide variety of installations.

The F7 is factory-programmed and ready to run. Its LCD operator display provides five lines of 16 characters each and can be set to any of seven languages. The intuitive keypad includes a parameter copying function to select and move parameters from one drive to another.

Providing the right fit to power requirements is simplified with 208/240 and 480 volt ratings, built-in bus choke above 30 HP, 12-pulse rectification above 30 HP, common bus capability and regeneration options. Additional features include dynamic braking choices, high-slip braking, motor auto-tuning, and a wide range of configurables, including breakers and fuses.

DriveWizard(TM) Software
Yaskawa's innovative DriveWizard(TM) Software for the PC is available at no charge as an F7 option. This highly versatile software provides an effective tool for upload/download, monitoring, trending, graphing and archiving to a personal data assistant (PDA) or PC.

Custom Drive Software
The drive has the capability to operate within Yaskawa's Custom Application Software Environment. This powerful technology adds functionality to the drive software by reconfiguring drive defaults, extending operating range, establishing presets for OEM equipment and by eliminating some peripheral controls and PLCs.

The F7 supports the industry's open architecture and open connectivity requirements, with network communications choices including DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, and many others. Drive coordination with peripheral equipment is simplified with inputs and outputs for digital pulse train, 4 to 20ma, -10 to +10V, and an assortment of programmable contacts.

Available from 0.5 to 500 HP, the new Yaskawa F7 AC drive can be specified in a variety of enclosure options matched to environmental requirements. It is globally compatible, conforming to UL, cUL and CE requirements.

Yaskawa is the world's largest producer of AC Drives. The drives business of Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. operates from facilities in New Berlin, Wis., Waukegan and Buffalo Grove, Ill., Los Angeles and offices throughout the Americas.
