Original Press Release:

Yaskawa's New V7N AC Drive Features Embedded DeviceNet Communications

WAUKEGAN, Ill., July 22, 2002 - Yaskawa's new V7N AC Drive, a high-performance adjustable frequency drive providing both Open Loop Vector and Volts / Hertz control in a very small package, is now available with embedded DeviceNet communications interfacing.

The new V7N utilizes DeviceNet network interfacing embedded directly on the control board of the proven V7 drive hardware. The resulting V7N drive delivers remarkable performance and excellent reliability at a significant cost benefit over drives using optional plug-in interface cards.

The V7N allows selection of either Volts/Hertz or Open Loop Vector control for precise speed regulation. Open Loop Vector also provides higher torque at low speeds.

DeviceNet Provides Simple, Low-Cost Networking

DeviceNet offers a simple, low-cost solution to networking requirements. It provides an effective communication network for computers, programmable controllers and drives, as well as industrial devices including operator interfaces, limit and photoelectric switches and motor starters.

The V7N's embedded DeviceNet allows 32 network nodes and includes programmable MAC ID and baud rates. The drive supports drive-type profiles with flash capability for easy software upgrades. Network status LEDs are visible through the cover.

The V7N includes three multi-function DeviceNet inputs, four multi-function digital inputs, an analog input, a multi-function DeviceNet output and two multi-function open collector inputs.

The network medium is a 5-wire cable containing a twisted pair for data communications, a second twisted pair for network power, and a shield. A plugable connector simplifies wiring.

The interface is designed and built by Yaskawa to comply with all pertinent aspects of the DeviceNet specification.

Yaskawa's DriveWizard and CASE Software

Yaskawa's innovative DriveWizard Software, available as a V7N option, provides an effective tool for online and offline configuration, monitoring and archiving to a personal data assistant (PDA) or PC.

Additionally, the V7N incorporates capabilities to operate within Yaskawa's Custom Application Software Environment. This powerful technology adds functionality to the drive by reconfiguring drive defaults, establishing presets for OEM equipment and by eliminating some peripheral controls and PLCs.

Advanced Features and Functions

The V7N's digital operator provides a 4-digit LED status display with a built-in analog speed potentiometer, as well as digital programming of almost 200 parameters. It is ideally suited for applications including conveyors, grinders, centrifuges, pumps, fans, machine tools, packaging, food and beverage processing, automotive assembly and textiles.

The V7N drive is globally compatible, conforming to CE, UL and CUL requirements. It is available in ratings of 1/8 to 10 HP at 230 VAC and 1/2 to 10 HP at 460V.
