Original Press Release:

15 - 80 Watt Desktop AC/DC Power Supply Meets Energy Star and California Energy Commission Efficiency Standards

11th February, 2008. XP Power announces the AEL series of energy efficient, compact, external AC/DC power supplies designed for low and medium power applications. The series includes 15, 20, 40, 60 and 80 Watt models, all meeting the energy efficiency standards stipulated by the US government's Energy Star initiative and those of the California Energy Commission (CEC).

The series offers a total of 40 single-output models, with output voltages ranging from +5 to +48 VDC. Non-standard output voltages are also available. Measuring just 3.58 x 1.5 x 1.42 inches (91 x 38 x 36 mm) the 15 Watt model is 85% efficient, resulting in less wasted energy than competitor products. The other power ranges within the series also achieve a minimum efficiency of 85% and consume very low standby power, typically 0.3 W. The units offer an extended operating temperature range, providing full power from 0 to +40 degrees C and derating to half power at +70 degrees C.

Safety approvals include UL 60950-1 / EN60950-1:2001, China Compulsory Certification (CCC) and Limited Power Source (LPS). The range also meets EN55022 and FCC Part 15C Level B standards for both conducted and radiated emissions without the need for additional filtering components. All models have Class I insulation with the 20 Watt model also available with optional Class II insulation. The power supplies include overvoltage, overload and short-circuit protection features.

XP Power' laboratory in Singapore is now accredited by the Californian Energy Commission to perform efficiency testing, allowing the company to certify its own products. XP Power is also an Energy Star partner and can use agreed test methods to determine and certify products that are Energy Star compliant.

The AEL series, with its energy efficiency standards compliance, compact size and low cost, are ideal for use with portable communications, computer peripheral and networking equipment. The units are also suitable for instrumentation, test and measurement applications.

The 15W AEL unit is priced at $15.00 in OEM quantities.
