ABB Announces Full Range of Relion® Protection and Control Devices

World's most comprehensive portfolio of protection and control products for generation, T&D and industrial applications is now available to North American customers.

Orlando, Florida - ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, today announced the extension of its Relion® family of advanced protection and control devices with the introduction of the 650 series and 615 series for generation, transmission, sub-transmission, distribution and industrial applications. Relion now offers a full range of products for the protection, control, measurement and supervision of power systems supporting both ANSI and IEC applications.

To ensure interoperable and future-proof solutions, the Relion family leverages advantages made possible by IEC 61850, the international standard for substation automation while ensuring capability with existing substation networking protocols. Now the North American Relion customer can benefit from significant cost savings in engineering, commissioning and maintenance, and from advanced applications based on IEC 61850.

Relion technology is the latest generation of products for protection, monitoring, and control of power systems, built on proven applications from previous generations of successful ABB protection and control devices.

Relion products communicate seamlessly with ABB and third-party IEC 61850 compliant products at any voltage level. Further, a single common device management tool - protection and control manager PCM600 - is provided for all Relion products, for application and communication configuration and disturbance handling.

The Relion product family consists of the following product series:

o 670/650 series for generation, transmission and sub-transmission

o 630/620/615/610/605 series for distribution and industrial applications
