YORK, Pa., January 28, 2010 - Westfalia Technologies, Inc. has developed its 4th generation Storage Retrieval Machine (SRM) for the unit load Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) market. Westfalia's fourth generation SRM design provides faster operation and longer life. Due to its sophisticated double mast structural design, it is one of the heaviest-duty SRM's available today. The fourth generation machine uses a re-designed base, which allows better tolerance adjustments in the field and reduces field installation time. More emphasis has been put on maintenance, making it easier to access components for lubrication and inspection. As numerous clients can attest, Westfalia's SRMs continue to work quickly and reliably in virtually any environment - refrigerated, frozen or ambient temperatures.

Westfalia's expertise is in designing, building and installing Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) with Savanna.NET® Warehouse Management Software (WMS) in both existing and new warehouses. Westfalia designs these systems based on each customer's unique business processes and statistical data, which drive the final solution. Compact, energy saving, space maximizing designs are possible due to Westfalia's multiple deep Satellite® technology, which provides the ability to store pallets anywhere from 1 to 12 pallets deep in a storage lane. Warehouses can be configured to achieve optimum throughput, density, and selectivity since lane depths are not restricted to 1 to 2 deep. Integration of order selection with automatic replenishment is options to further enhance the design. Westfalia can provide solutions with tools (machinery and software) that are developed and manufactured in-house, to ensure that the entire system is serviceable and upgradeable in the future.

Cost Savings from AS/RS

Creating a dense, multiple deep storage solution reduces the storage area needed, thus minimizing construction costs for retrofitting AS/RS in existing facilities or for new warehouses. Additionally, operating costs drop significantly in due to dense cubic storage. For example, electricity costs typically drop 30-40% in refrigerated and frozen environments for an AS/RS versus conventional warehouses. Westfalia's Savanna.NET® Warehouse Management Software (WMS) will track all pallets throughout an AS/RS, optimizing flows for fast and accurate order management. Thus, there are significant labor and customer service cost savings due to increased inventory efficiency and order management.

Continuous Improvement

As explained by Dan Labell, President of Westfalia Technologies, Inc., "Continuous improvement is ingrained in Westfalia's culture. Each new project, be it in an existing or new facility, brings with it unique challenges. We are continually innovating to meet those unique challenges, and those improvements affect the SRM design, as well as conveyors, controls, and the Savanna.NET® Warehouse Management Software."
