308 Systems Announces Interoperability Solution for Emergency Management Services

Emergency Management Systems across the nation are plagued by the lack of interoperable wireless communications systems. Communications failures during both 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina demonstrated the need for robust data and voice interoperable communications to respond to the situation successfully. For years local, state and federal public safety organizations together with industry have attempted to solve this problem.

Now with Internet connection sharing, 308 Systems has provided a proven data connection solution with its TAC-PAK briefcase command center.

The TAC-PAK provides an Emergency Responder the ability to establish a mobile Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with the capability to share Internet service with 99 local users. A single TAC-PAK, in the hands of an Emergency Responder, complete with satellite telephone, rugged laptop computer, and wireless router, can deploy anywhere and much quicker than a traditional mobile command van/bus. This capability gives a town, city or county Emergency Responder the unique ability to establish a local area network together with other organizations at the incident location and to reachback to state and federal EOCs across the country with real time information.

For example, following a significant earthquake, cellular telephone service will be interrupted. Ground relay towers connecting telephone signals will be lost or out of alignment. An Emergency Responder equipped with a TAC-PAK quickly establishes an active network via the satellite telephone, computer and wireless router. From the TAC-PAK, First Responders from other emergency organizations, hospitals, law enforcement agencies and the military connect to the TAC-PAK via Ethernet cable or with an 802.11 wireless device. Quickly the TAC-PAK enables up to 99 emergency response organizations to share data via LAN or Internet. Those connected to the Local Area Network (LAN) can also take advantage of TAC-PAK printing and video-conferencing, thus increasing their ability to reach back to state and federal agencies. In minutes organizations can communicate and save lives and property.

From a single man portable briefcase, an Emergency Responder can save their city time, money and most important - lives. A quick response at the scene with interoperable equipment sets the conditions for quick evacuation of victims and reduces casualties.
