Win with Analytics April Teradata Universe Conference to Showcase Best Practices in Creating Business Value from Growing Volumes of Data

BARCELONA, Spain, March 16, 2011 - Barcelona conference will feature leading firms such as Daimler, Tesco, eBay and many more

Just weeks away, Europe's leading business intelligence event, The 16th Teradata Universe Conference, will include insightful sessions led by highly influential companies on innovative uses of detailed data from many new sources to create exceptional business value. Set for April 10-13 in Barcelona, the conference is sponsored by Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world's largest company focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics. The increasingly popular event will feature pre-eminent Teradata customers from all industries, including Air France KLM, Coca-Cola, Daimler, eBay, KPN Telecom, Telefonica, Tesco, and Vodafone Ltd.

These premiere organizations will provide deep insights into their data warehousing and business intelligence practices illustrating how to successfully deal with the pressures and opportunities of Big Data. This will include new visibility into the rising utilities sector, which is facing urgent challenges that require real-time analysis of unprecedented volumes of active data in the smart grid. In an opening address, Mike Koehler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Teradata, will outline Teradata's grand strategy at a time when Teradata is shaping the future of data management.

In an important keynote speech, Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive Officer of Tesco, will explain how this dynamic company has leveraged data to achieve growth despite intense competition. Tesco is the largest British retailer and the retail industry's number three organization worldwide. Friedhelm Inama von Sternegg, Senior Manager COC Service & Marketing at Daimler, will illustrate how the German producer of premium automobiles and the world's biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles uses advanced analytics to consistently manage product quality on a global scale. This is one dimension of the complex yet exciting practice of advanced analytics, which is a major theme of the conference as the topic gains greater momentum in 2011.

"We are now witnessing the rapid rise of new types of data such as unstructured data from social media and sensor data from machine-to-machine communications. In the years to come, this data will grow exponentially and open up a whole world of new applications for data analytics," said Hermann Wimmer, President Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Teradata. "The capability to manage and draw business value from this big data will become mission-critical for companies. This is true even for industries that have only begun to explore the potential of business intelligence." Innovative companies have already started using this data to increase the precision of customer intelligence and quality management, Wimmer said. "Focusing on customer intelligence and advanced analytics, we want to provide conference participants with actionable insight, which they will need to future-proof their organizations."

A number of dedicated sessions in the conference program will focus on new types of customer intelligence. These include presentations by Jacob Borup, Customer Insight Manager at Coop Denmark, and by both Electronic Arts' Chad Meley, Director of Business Intelligence Services, and Janet Cinfio, Vice President Online IT. Stephen Brobst, Teradata's Chief Technology Officer, and Teradata Director Cross-Channel Analytics Edouard Servan-Schreiber will discuss the opportunities of social network analysis.

Conference keynote speaker Clay Shirky, author of the best-selling book "Here Comes Everybody," a close-up look at new technology and social media, will describe how new media channels will increase productivity and profoundly change both society and companies across the world.

In addition, Teradata has added "Consulting Lounges" to this year's program, which will offer participants the opportunity to discuss data warehousing and business analytics topics in detail with experts from Teradata and Teradata partners. In his keynote message, data journalist and designer David McCandless will demonstrate how visualized data help to reveal unexpected connections, patterns and stories.

Teradata will also host a number of technology partners at the event, including AbInitio, IBM, Infor, Kalido, KXEN, LSI, Microgen, MicroStrategy, Oracle, Protegrity, SAP, SAS, Speedtrap, Tableau, Trillium Software and Webtrends.
