WCET Partners with Sonic Foundry to Create Hybrid Conference

22nd annual WCET Connect Conference available online via Mediasite

MADISON, Wis., Nov. 23, 2010 -- Sonic Foundry, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOFO), the recognized market leader for rich media webcasting, lecture capture and knowledge management, today announced that WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) selected Sonic Foundry to webcast their 22nd Annual Conference.

Using Mediasite to record and archive the sessions is part of a greater initiative by WCET to connect virtual and in-person attendees. All general sessions of the conference were streamed and participants were encouraged to use Twitter to follow the conversation using the hashtag #wcet10.

"As WCET has evolved over the years, we realize it's essential to connect to our audience in different ways. We are excited to offer so many virtual components to our participants this year, especially Mediasite, a unique platform that gives our virtual attendees a seat at the WCET Annual Conference," said Megan Raymond, manager of WCET's events and programs.

Presentation materials have been posted to the WCET Annual Conference Slideshare page, and on-demand sessions are available at sofo.com/af384. Featured sessions in the Mediasite video archive include the results of the 2010 Managing Online Education Survey, a collaborative project sponsored by WCET and The Campus Computing Project

"The Mediasite archive of the WCET conference is a great resource because it extends the reach and impact of the WCET conference to a national and indeed global audience,' said Kenneth C. Green, founding director of The Campus Computing Project.

WCET was founded by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) in 1989 as the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications. WCET's early goals were to meet a growing need to integrate distance learning and education technology into the academic services of higher education institutions across 15 Western states. These institutions chose to join forces to evaluate and share best practices, knowing the challenges and solutions were bigger than any one institution or state. Since then, WCET has evolved beyond its Western focus. Membership spans the nation, representing nearly every state and several countries. Today, we are changing our name to the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies to reflect the national scope of our membership, and to realign with our parent organization.

WCET's annual membership conference was webcast with Mediasite by Sonic Foundry. Since 2003, Sonic Foundry's lecture capture platform and services have set the standard for delivering exceptional instruction and sharing knowledge online. Trusted by more than 800 educational institutions worldwide, the Mediasite lecture capture and content management system automates the recording, delivery and management of multimedia presentations that combine video and accompanying visual aids for live or on-demand viewing.
