Versatile Card Technology Acquires Additional Spartanics 930 Inspection System
Spartanics (www.spartanics.com) announces that Versatile Card Technology (www.vct.com ), a global leader in a wide range of plastic card applications, has acquired a second Spartanics 930 Card Inspection System to replace the combination of less sophisticated inspection technology and manual inspection methods that their suburban Chicago facility had previously used.
Suresh Kumar, VP Smart Card Operations for Versatile Card Technology explains that there are many features of the Spartanics 930 Card Inspection System that make it a valuable addition to their production for a wide range of financial and other secure cards as well as other card applications. Kumar reports, "Previously, we were unable to achieve adequate inspection of cards with either gold or silver backgrounds for scratches, an inspection standard that is critical in bank card applications. The speed of the Spartanics system, fully inspecting 36,000 cards/hour, is also very important to maintaining our high volume of 1.7+ million cards/day. Before we were unable to use our inspection machines for certain cards, and had to slow down to do manual inspections. The detailed defect reporting that you get with the Spartanics 930 Card Inspection System is also very attractive to us. It not only tells us that we have one particular defect but gives detailed reports on all defe cts in
any reject card. This enables us to do timely improvement of our production processes, which further helps us cut production costs. Since we produce a wide range of secure cards with UV features as well as clear cards, the ability of this system to report and fully inspect for such a wide range of defect parameters is very important to us. Lastly, the Spartanics system's ability to also inspect non-standard cards is very useful to us. We can use the Spartanics system to fully inspect RAC cards and other form factors such as luggage tags."
