Valspar Flooring Joins U.S. Green Building Council as Product Manufacturer Member

WHEELING, IL, June 15, 2007 -- Realizing the growing importance of green, sustainable building practices, Valspar Flooring, a division of Valspar Corporation (NYSE: VAL), today announced it has joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a product manufacturer member.

"As a USGBC member, Valspar will have a greater opportunity to play a role in green building issues," said Lysa Young, Marketing Manager, Valspar Flooring. "Valspar is extremely proud to be a USGBC member and of our continuing development of low VOC products. These are both active steps in the long-term preservation of our environment."

USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

"The phrases 'low VOC' (volatile organic compounds), 'zero VOC,' 'green,' and 'sustainable' are gaining visibility and importance in the marketplace," explained Young. "At one time segmented to areas with habitant health considerations, such as hospitals, schools and office spaces, low VOC formulations are now being fueled by government mandates and by USGBC and other voluntary groups. For owners and installers of our products, this translates into immediate benefits of building materials that produce minimal to no odors or solvent outgassing and that can be installed while a facility maintains business as usual."

Valspar Flooring offers various concrete and wall coatings & resurfacers that comply with VOC regulations and that can help contribute to Green building efforts.
