Vactor Manufacturing Retains ISO 14001:2004 Certification for Environmental Standards

STREATOR, ILL. (May 29, 2008) - Vactor Manufacturing has renewed its ISO 14001:2004 certification, an environmental management recognition earned by companies that minimize environmental impact caused by their activities, and achieve continual improvement of their environmental performance.

The internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems, ISO 14001:2004 provides guidance on managing the environmental aspects of a company's activities, products and services more effectively. The standard specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy; determining environmental aspects and impacts of products, activities and services; planning environmental objectives and measurable targets; implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets; checking and corrective action and management review.

"Vactor Manufacturing is making great strides to become an environmental leader within our facility and with the products we design, manufacture and distribute," said Brian Mascal, environmental health and safety manager at Vactor Manufacturing. "Everyone at Vactor Manufacturing is committed to improving products and processes that respect our surrounding community and protect our environment. We could not have achieved this level of world-class environmental management without the full support and participation of the entire staff within our organization."

To achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification, Vactor Manufacturing identified all company products and activities that might have an impact on the environment and established performance objectives to meet specific goals. As part of the certification process, the company launched an aggressive recycling initiative that included paper materials, wood pallets, wire, cans and bottles, all grades of scrap metal and solvent from painting operations.

The certification process for Vactor Manufacturing included documenting every aspect of how the company's facility in Streator, Ill., managed its various environmental systems, such as water usage, energy resources and waste generation. To retain the certification, Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc., an ISO-registered third party organization, recently performed a periodic audit to ensure all processes were followed.
