Unilux Opens Indian Sales and Service Office to Meet Robust Demand for Surface Inspection by Packaging and Narrow-Web Printers

SADDLE BROOK, NJ Oct. 16, 2007 - With the large flexible package and narrow-web printers driving demand in India, Unilux, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of stroboscopic inspection systems, has opened a sales and service office in New Delhi. Ashwani Kumar has joined Unilux as sales manager - India to open the new office. He will provide sales, marketing and basic technical sales support to solidify Unilux's rapidly strengthening presence in the country's printing and converting industries.

"We're still quite new in the printing and converting industries in India, but Unilux inspection system sales in the country have doubled every year for the past three years," said Mike Simonis, president, Unilux. "Large flexible packaging printers for consumer products have been buying Unilux systems directly from us, and narrow-web printers are specifying them from press and rewinder manufacturers.

"Ashwani Kumar has the ideal skills and qualifications to introduce Unilux systems to India's industrial base and help our customers make the most effective use of our technology," he said. "He has worked with our customers in their factories and has helped provide solutions to many types of production problems."

Kumar joins Unilux after spending the last two years in sales support for Jasch Industries Limited, New Delhi, Unilux's agent for India in the steel industry. Before that, he spent eight years with an Indian company that manufactured machinery for the metals, paper and plastics industry. He holds a BA degree in economics from Himachai Pradesh University and a MBA degree in international business from Symbiosis University.

Unilux stroboscopic inspection lights enable press operators and inspectors to spot defects at full production speeds by using the stroboscopic effect to essentially freeze images of fast-moving lines. In these frozen images, defects stand out. Fixed-mounted lights can provide inspection capability at strategic points along a process line, and operators can use battery-powered handheld lights to pinpoint the causes of defects and determine if the press needs to be adjusted or stopped. Hands-free operation can be achieved by synchronizing inspection systems to line speed with Unilux's microprocessor-based, programmable controllers.

The Unilux Lith-O-Light family of stroboscopic inspection lights features five sizes to handle printing inspection needs for wide and narrow webs on presses and finishing equipment moving at full production speeds. Unilux self-contained inspection systems use high-output, long-linear stroboscopic lamps to spread light evenly across the entire strip. Unilux enables operators to inspect the full web width instead of a small sample with a handheld spot strobe.

Kirk Nell, Unilux manager for Asia, said the new office in India will allow Unilux to expand the market for its products and offer better sales and technical support for current users.

"Ashwani will provide a direct link to Unilux for our agents and customers to help them both get faster answers to questions and faster action on suggestions," Nell said. "Our customers' success is a direct result of our being able to demonstrate our technology to customers who are looking for every competitive edge to maintain their product quality. We will further support our growth by adding repair service capability to our new office in India."
