Trident's SVP EX Video Processor With DCRe(TM) Powers New Digital CRT TVs From Toshiba

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 6 - Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRID), a world-wide leader in developing advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Toshiba, one of the world's leading consumer electronics manufacturers, is using Trident's SVP EX integrated ten-bit video decoder and processor featuring the Digital Cinema Reality Engine (DCRe(TM)) to power its latest family of digital flat CRT TVs for the China market. The new models, 29CH7UC and 34CH7UC, are now shipping.

"Toshiba's CRT TVs require outstanding video image quality and we are very impressed by Trident's SVP EX chip with DCRe(TM) technology," said Mr. Eiji Tamaki, vice president of Dalian Toshiba. "The SVP EX chip offers the best cost-effective single chip solution with uncompromising analog TV and HDTV picture quality. It gives Toshiba's new CRT TV family a real advantage in this highly competitive China market."

"We are extremely pleased that Toshiba, a world-wide leader in consumer electronics, has chosen our SVP EX ten-bit video processor with DCRe(TM) technology for its new digital CRT TV family for the China market," said Dr. J.H. Chang, president of the Trident Microsystems Inc. "China's CRT TV market is still very important and it is consolidating around a smaller number of leading suppliers. This design-win signifies our continuous market expansion into worldwide top-tier TV OEMs not only in the flat panel TV market, but also in the digital CRT market."

The SVP EX(TM) family features Trident's Digital Cinema Reality Engine, DCRe(TM). DCRe(TM) video processing delivers optimal video fidelity to offer consumers compelling, cinema-like video images. DCRe(TM) includes:
o Triple ten-bit ADC to dramatically reduce visible video signal conversion artifacts.
o Ten-bit 3D color decoder to eliminate annoying "false color" artifacts and improve overall contrast.
o Ten-bit dual-channel 1080i motion-adaptive de-interlacer to provide cinema-like motion video quality from any type of video source material.
o Ten-bit dual-channel scaler to insure crisp images regardless of the display resolution.
o Ten-bit dual-channel color processor with blue-stretch, green-stretch, skin-color correction, and white-balance control to offer vivid, bright colors previously available only in the most sophisticated internally-developed designs of consumer electronics OEMs.
o Ten-bit display interface to support today's most advanced flat displays.
o Advanced content-adaptive 3D noise reduction to dramatically reduce the popping and crackling that is especially prevalent on today's LCD TVs.
o Enhanced horizontal and vertical sharpness controls that set a new level in sharpness for advanced TVs.
o Programmable LCD overdrive to eliminate the blurring of fast-moving objects that is common to many LCD displays.
o Integrated VBI slicer and V-chip/closed-caption/teletext accelerator to support world-wide TV data and messaging needs.
o Full-screen 16-bit bit-mapped OSD powered by a 2D-graphics accelerator to enable beautiful, intuitive, windows-based user interfaces that enhance the functionality of advanced TVs.
