Toledo Metal Spinning Wins Small Business Award

Toledo Metal Spinning was
one of 60 businesses nationwide
and one of 12 in the Great
Lakes Region to be named a
"Blue Ribbon" company by the
U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

TMS Vice President Eric
Fankhauser said he was
pleased with the recognition.

"I liked receiving the award
because it recognizes the employees
of the company," he said.
"Winning an award like this can
help to build credibility."

Fankhauser was presented
the award in a May 12 ceremony
in Washington, D.C.

He said his business applied
for the Chamber's small business
of the year award, but due
to an overwhelming number
of applications, the Chamber
broke down the businesses into
categories and presented the
"Blue Ribbon" award to 60 applicants.

During the award ceremony,
he said he participated in a
panel discussion about the difference
between 20th and 21st
century businesses and how
20th century businesses can
become more like 21st century
businesses.

TMS, founded in 1929, forms
metal by spinning, stamping,
wielding and machining,
Fankhauser said.

He said his business has a
diverse group of customers, but
most customers are within a
500- to 600-mile radius of Toledo.

One of the main products the
business supplies is a conical
hopper, Fankhauser said.

"The hopper is used primarily
as a feeding tube application,"
he said. "It can be
used to feed plastic pelts into
a machine, for pharmaceutical use to make pills or to make
yogurt."

Fankhauser said another
popular product his business
makes is a stainless steel waste
receptacle used in hospitals,
airports and malls.

TMS employs 47 workers.
