TOFAS/FIAT Turkey, the Country's Largest Automaker, Ensures Business Continuity and Data Security with Enterasys Secure Network at Updated Manufacturing Plant

ANDOVER, Mass., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterasys Networks Inc., the Secure Networks Company(TM), announced today that TOFAS/FIAT Turkey, the country's largest automotive manufacturer, has deployed an Enterasys Secure Networks(TM) infrastructure at its updated manufacturing facility in Bursa. Designed to help ensure business continuity, improve operational efficiency and control costs, the new network supports the entire factory infrastructure, which spans nearly 11 million square feet.

TOFAS/FIAT has been an Enterasys customer for more than a decade, enjoying the advantages of Secure Networks technology at its Istanbul headquarters and a design facility at Uludag University in Bursa.

The Secure Network at the manufacturing plant supports more than 5,000 workers, from factory technicians and engineers to executive management. The 1,600-node network leverages Enterasys Matrix(TM) X secure core routers, Matrix N-Series distribution switches and Enterasys SecureStack switches at the network's edge. NetSight(R) Console and Policy Manager provide centralized management and security of the multivendor IT infrastructure.

"Security is paramount," said Unsal Akkaya, information technologies manager at TOFAS/FIAT. "Our network is available to both internal and external users -- employees, partners and vendors. We are a long-time Enterasys customer because of the company's architectural approach of building security directly into the network infrastructure. We can secure every point of entry into the network against all types of threats. Thanks to Enterasys, we know that our intellectual property, customer information and financial data are well-protected."

TOFAS/FIAT also wanted a network that was easy to manage from a central location. "The Enterasys infrastructure provides us with excellent visibility and control of the entire network, even equipment from other vendors," said Halil Turkmen, TOFAS/FIAT's server and network management administrator. "This translates into longer uptimes and, if something should go wrong, faster repairs. We are able to manage our entire network, spanning multiple sites, with a staff of just four people while also having enough time to devote to other strategic initiatives."

Another benefit, says Turkmen, is how well the Enterasys equipment performs in the challenging atmosphere of a large automobile manufacturing plant. "Even in such harsh heavy manufacturing conditions, we have never had any problems with our Enterasys products."

Akkaya also points to the low maintenance and operational costs of the Enterasys infrastructure. "Not only do we have a highly secure, easy-to- manage network that is helping us achieve our business continuity objectives, but we have lowered our ongoing support and maintenance costs. It is making a meaningful contribution to our corporate objective to reduce expenses by 20 percent overall."

In the future, TOFAS/FIAT will take its Secure Network's capabilities to the next level to improve identity management and IT security audit results. The company also intends to expand its deployment of Enterasys security applications with Dragon(R) Network Defense and Enterasys Sentinel to proactively combat security threats.
