A New Kid on the Dock! Tico Yard Spotters - A New Product for PA, NJ & NY

South Plainfield, NJ

Barclay has recently entered into an agreement to service & sell Tico Yard Spotters (Terminal Tractors) in the New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and New York markets.

"What is most exciting to us about this product is the unique history of how this Manufacturer evolved. TICO decided to design and build their equipment based on years of using and maintaining other competitive brands", says Skip Russo, President & CEO of Barclay. In fact, TICO is North America's largest fleet owner & operator of terminal tractors. They understand firsthand what happens when terminal tractors leave the production line and face the realities of day to day operations.

In 1975,Terminal Investment Corp (TICO) started as a dealer for Ottawa Truck and operated a piggy back ramp service in Savannah, GA. They grew from a pool of (10) terminal tractors at the Port of Savannah to North America's largest owned fleet of terminal tractors with a significant presence in all the major ports on the East and Gulf Coasts of the US. Owning one of every brand of Terminal Tractor produced in the last 40 years, TICO learned a lot from maintaining and operating this equipment. They determined that the total life cycle cost and equipment availability were critical to its success, and that tractor manufacturers put very little emphasis on practical maintenance and up-time design. To address these limitations, TICO developed a clean-sheet approach to their terminal tractor design, focusing on maintainability and up-time utilization performance through component-based, bolt-on-bolt-off assemblies, engineered to maximize both simplicity and durability of its tractor. They built their first units in 1985 and manufactured in excess of 2,000 units to date.

TICO's years of operating and maintaining a fleet of terminal tractors and trailers provided TICO a unique opportunity to bring to the market place a terminal tractor that is designed and configured for low life cycle cost and maximum up time. Tico has built many Standard Options into the equipment that you will find only as optional in other brands. Why? Because only TICO has had to own and maintain a fleet and the knowledge and experience gained from thirty plus years has been brought to the design table and now to the marketplace. "We were extremely impressed with the product and the enthusiasm of all of the employees that build it when we visited the 117,000 sq ft manufacturing plant in Ridgeland, SC this past Spring," says Russo. "We look forward to adding this to our offering to the many large Warehousing and Distribution facilities in our PA, NJ & NY markets."
