Thermo Fisher Scientific Holds Annual TLD Dosimetry Training for Professionals Engaged in Personnel Radiation Protection

Course provides complete coverage of Harshaw Personnel TLD program

Oakwood Village, Ohio, January 27, 2009 - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, held its 13th annual dosimetry training course for professionals responsible for using personnel radiation protection in the workplace. The annual course provided complete coverage of the Thermo Scientific Harshaw Personnel TLD program and is open to participants from a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical, utilities, medical and food safety, as well as government, national laboratory and military officials. Dr. Marko Moscovitch, Thermo Fisher Scientific consultant and a significant luminary of the Thermo Scientific Harshaw TLD dosimetry product line, led the 5-day session held in December at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Oakwood Village, Ohio, training facility. Since its beginning in 1995, the course has drawn participants from the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions.

"We continue to be impressed with the interest and participation of the wide variety of individuals who profit from this course," said Joe Rotunda, global director marketing and new product development, Radiation Measurement & Security Instruments business of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The fact that the course has been successful in attracting hundreds of people from diverse industries, and from across the globe, shows that Thermo Fisher Scientific is the place to come for expert advice on TLD dosimetry technology."

The course includes both introductory and advanced topics, covering the fundamentals of thermoluminescent dosimetry and the aspects of the Harshaw TLD systems required to conduct a successful personnel dosimetry program. The hands-on training also covers the requirements of the NVLAP (National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program) and DOELAP (Department of Energy Laboratory Accreditation Program) programs, as well as the ISO/IEC international TLD standards. TLD radiation protection is the most popular dosimetry technique in the world, according to Dr. Moscovitch. "And the Harshaw TLD system from Thermo Fisher Scientific is the world leader and the most advanced and automated dosimetry technology in the world," said Mr. Rotunda.
