Telecom Namibia Becomes First Service Provider in Emerging Africa to Achieve Cisco Powered Program Membership Status

WINDHOEK, Namibia, October 10 / -- Cisco Recognizes Namibia Telecom for Commitment to Network Quality by Granting Eligibility to Enter its Premier Partnering Programme for Service Providers World-Wide.

Cisco® announced today that Telecom Namibia has become the first service provider in Emerging Africa (1) to be awarded membership to the Cisco Powered Program. Commitment to using Cisco's industry-leading technology has qualified Telecom Namibia for Cisco Powered designation for IP VPN - Data, Security - Firewall/IDS, Wireless Hotspots services.

The Cisco Powered Program, launched in 1997, is Cisco's premier partnering program for service providers and includes more than 300 global members. Cisco Powered program members can take advantage of Cisco marketing and technical expertise and utilise Cisco market recognition in the promotion of their network services. The goal of the program is to assist service providers in the marketing and promotion of IP services, allowing service providers to develop new revenue streams faster and easier. The Cisco Powered Program has helped businesses find high-quality, reliable service providers.

"Being endorsed in the Cisco Powered Program means Telecom Namibia's customers will be able to take advantage of our investment in world-class technology, helping them to grow their networks and implement applications with ease. We are committed to building a network infrastructure that will accommodate and facilitate customer growth," commented Coenraad Coetzee, Telecom Namibia's General Manager for Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and Corporate Business Solutions (CBS).

"The program was developed as a way for Cisco to endorse service providers that have been identified as having made a commitment to using Cisco's technology to help drive reliability and customer satisfaction.
Telecom Namibia has met these requirements, and we are pleased to give it Cisco's stamp of approval," commented Anthony Vonsee, Cisco's General Manager for Emerging Africa.

The endorsement follows closely on from Telecom Namibia receiving "The Best IP Network of the Year" Award at the Cisco Networkers Conference held Sun City, South Africa earlier this year. As the first wire-line service provider to achieve CPN Status in Emerging Africa Telecom Namibia's inclusion in the Cisco Powered Program will further enhance its competitiveness in the managed wide area network (WAN) solutions industry.
