Tektronix Demonstrates Video Industry's First 3Gbit/s Test Capabilities at IBC 2007

Tektronix Leads the Industry with Breakthrough 3Gbit/s Test and Measurement Demonstration Facilitating the Move to Full HD

BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 7 / / -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, has announced that it is providing a comprehensive technology demonstration of its unique 3Gbit/s test and measurement capabilities on its stand (9.530) at this year's IBC, providing visitors with a view into the near future of digital video.

With 1080p 50/60 -- also referred to as "full HD" -- now beginning to emerge as the acquisition format of choice in the production industry, bandwidth requirements are correspondingly increasing. Acquisition in a higher frame rate version of 1080p facilitates higher quality conversion to popular broadcast formats like 720p and 1080i. The demand for 1080p 50/60 content is a key driver for high capacity SDI transport. While Dual Link, which provides two linked 1.5 Gbit/s connections, has proved itself a viable interim solution, synchronization issues dictate that in the longer term it will prove unsatisfactory for many. Progression to 3Gbit/s SDI technology is the next step for the industry.

"NAB saw the launch of several 3Gbit/s SDI products, most notably routers. Routers are a core infrastructure element and their availability may prove to be a facilitating factor in the transition to 3Gb/s SDI," said Eben Jenkins, Director, Video Test, Tektronix. "It is essential that industry leaders like Tektronix reassure customers that they will not be left isolated or without a needed technology when they are ready to take the next step."

On its stand, Tektronix is demonstrating 3Gbit/s waveform and jitter measurements using a commercially available board with 3Gbit/s output as stimulus and a high speed Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG). The AWG7000, the fastest and most capable AWG available in the industry today, is specifically designed to meet the needs for high-speed serial data test challenges. The demonstration provides an opportunity for visitors to see first hand the challenges faced by the industry with these high-speed links and the move to 3Gbit/s technology.

"It is no secret that high-speed links of this nature provide tough challenges for equipment manufacturers," said Jenkins. "Tektronix has a wealth of experience -- more than six decades -- across several industries providing high speed analysis tools and we are bringing that experience to bear on this project. 3Gbit/s is the next frontier and we want our customers to face this challenge knowing that we will be there with our technology to support them."
