TÃœV SÃœD America Inc. Achieves Accredited Elevator Certification Organization (AECO) Status from Standards Council of Canada (SCC)

First Certification Organization to hold both ANSI and SCC AECO accreditation

Peabody, Massachusetts. TÃœV SÃœD America Inc. announced that they have been granted
accreditation as an Accredited Elevator Certification Organization (AECO) to ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7
through the SCC. The scope of the accreditation includes elevator systems, subsystems, components,
and functions. TÃœV SÃœD America received its AECO accreditation from ANSI in mid-March, when it
first added Elevator Services to its Industry Service group offerings.

"As the only certification organization to hold both ANSI and SCC AECO accreditation, combined with
our parent company, TÃœV SÃœD AG, being a Notified Body for the EU Lift Directive, we are now in the
unique position to better serve the certification needs of all major global markets from a single source,"
states Dirk Schroeter, Product Manager, Inspection Services, TÃœV SÃœD America Inc.

As an AECO, TÃœV SÃœD America will ensure that all elevator systems, subsystems, components or
functions meet the relevant Global Essential Safety Requirements (GESRs). Comprehensive services
include product certification, risk assessment analysis, factory inspection, compliance review, and
ongoing surveillances to ensure certified equipment is being manufactured and installed to the
requirements defined in the Code Compliance Documents (CCD). TÃœV SÃœD's test laboratory experts
carry out European Commission type examination in line with the Lift Directive 95/16/EC, Annex V/A
(Module B) of all safety components listed in Annex IV/A, and model elevators Annex V/B.

About ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7

The Safety Code for Elevators, ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7, is the new performance-based code (PBC) for
elevators which provides an objective and structured method for establishing design and product
safety. The code allows faster implementation of new technologies and quicker delivery of product to
market. Regulation by safety codes prevents these machines from becoming safety and liability
hazards.

A joint American and Canadian standard with accreditation administered through both ANSI for the U.S.
and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for Canada, the ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7 code covers the
design, construction, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repair of the following:

o Hoisting and lowering mechanisms, equipped with a car that moves between one or more
landings.

o Hoisting and lowering mechanisms that are equipped with a car that serves two or more
landings and are restricted to the carrying of material by their size or limited access to the car.
