Synergetics USA, Inc. Taps the Spinal Markets

O'FALLON, Mo., Jan. 11 -- Synergetics USA, Inc. (NASDAQ:SURG) announced today the sale of the first Sonopet Omni(R) ultrasonic aspirator for use exclusively in spinal surgeries. This unit will be utilized for discectomies and intravertebral fusions and will utilize the Long Claw(TM) surgical tip, allowing surgeons to use its additional length to reach new depths within the spine.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to offer Omni(R) units for spinal surgeries," said Gregg D. Scheller, Chief Executive Officer and President of Synergetics USA, Inc. "This product is unique to the market and provides surgeons with a device which is configured specifically for emerging, minimally invasive surgical techniques in the spine."

Mr. Scheller continued, "The sale of the Omni(R) outside of intracranial neurosurgery further enhances our growing product line and introduces the Omni(R) to a market ten-fold greater in size than the traditional market. This allows Synergetics to take another important step down our strategic path by introducing the use of our capital equipment into other minimally invasive microsurgery procedures."

This initial sale concludes an approximate nine month initiative to commercialize the Omni(R) for spinal surgery applications.
