Sterigenics to Significantly Upgrade Production Capabilities at the San Diego E-Beam Facility

Sterigenics International, the global leader in sterilization services, announced earlier this year that it had signed a contract with ScandiNova Systems AB for the purchase of two 100KW Model K2 Solid State Power Modulators. Installation started in November 2008 and will result in a substantial increase in capacity.

"This upgrade will significantly improve our throughput capability, increase up-time and reduce maintenance time. The result will allow us to continue to grow with our customers in the Medical Device and Advanced Applications markets," said Patrick Hughes, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Sterigenics

Each machine will be taken out of production while the modulators are fitted with the alternate line continuing to operate on a reduced basis to ensure minimum disruption to customers. Where customer volume demand outstrips available capacity, alternative arrangements have been made with other Sterigenics facilities to ensure processing continuity. Both lines are expected to be fully operational in April 2009.

The San Diego investment in increased capacity and improved quality follows the installation of EtO Sterilization capacity in China in 2008.
