Spreadtrum Wins the First Prize in National S&T Development Awards

SHANGHAI, China, March 1 -- On Feb. 27, 2007, the Spreadtrum Communications' project ''Research and Development of Spreadtrum GSM/GPRS Baseband Chip Key Technology'' won the first prize at the 2006 National Science and Technology (S&T) Awards.
The Chinese government set up the National Science-Technology Awards to give the supreme honors to those units or individuals who made significant contributions to technology development, research, inventions, and applications, etc. The candidates are reviewed and evaluated by the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the results then approved by the State Council and before finally being signed by the Chinese President.
Dr. Wu Ping, the Spreadtrum CEO, accepted the award from Vice President Zeng Qinghong at the annual national S&T prize awarding ceremony. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Congress Premier Wen Jiabao, with other senior leaders, attended the ceremony.
Spreadtrum developed single chip baseband processors for GSM/GPRS, which employs state-of-the-art SoC design technology, integrates multiple functions like digital, analog, power management and multimedia functions into a single chip with reduced size and power consumption. With this cutting edge technology it provides a stable, open and cost-effective platform.
