Special-Lite Door Endures 25 Million Testing Cycles

On March 27, 2006 an ongoing cycle test of Special-Lite's SL-17 Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP) Flush Door reached 25 million open/close cycles.
Conducted by Architectural Testing, Inc. in accordance with ANSI A250.4, Special-Lite's FRP Door far exceeded the Level A minimum of one million cycles for extra heavy-duty doors. The original door completed 25 million cycles without any noticeable wear or affect on performance, although the closer and exit device mechanisms had to be replaced three times.

While it took Architectural Testing 50 months to reach this plateau in a controlled setting, in real world use it would take much longer to complete
25 million cycles. For example: if one thousand high school students passed through the same entrance one at a time twice each school day, more than 62 years would pass before the doors were opened and closed 25 million times.
