SourceLabs Announces Continuous Support System for Open Source Software

Unique Innovations Make Enterprise Support and Maintenance More Efficient, Timely and Effective

SEATTLE, June 28 // -- SourceLabs today announced the SourceLabs Continuous Support System, new technology that dramatically improves the timeliness and effectiveness of software support for demanding production applications run by large enterprises. The System enables unprecedented levels of service by providing continuous diagnostic monitoring of production systems, preventing downtime with pre-emptive repair processes that discover and resolve issues before production systems are impacted, and delivering ongoing notification, alert and analysis services. The SourceLabs Continuous Support System has proven its ability to deliver superior service in numerous competitive sales situations addressing high-pressure, complex support cases from some of the world's largest IT organizations.

"For a $50 billion per year business, software support has been stunningly neglected," said Byron Sebastian, CEO and co-founder of SourceLabs. "Enterprise software customers no longer have to be plagued by low-tech, highly-scripted call center experiences when their critical business systems are at stake. The Continuous Support System gives enterprise IT users the best infrastructure software support available by providing proactive notifications of security issues and production vulnerabilities, a suite of sophisticated diagnostic services, and precise, customer-specific information and services."

For high-availability, customer-facing applications downtime can result in many millions of dollars of losses, including lost revenue and liability for customer or business partners' losses. Lack of software dependability can have catastrophic consequences for corporate reputations as well.

A recent Gartner survey(1) on software support services revealed that customers of all sizes see a lot of disparity in tools provided by support vendors. According to Bob Igou, Gartner research director for software support services, customers say that a significant number of vendors do not provide support services that include automated monitoring and diagnostic tools. "When faced with competition from support organizations that offer such tools, vendors that don't will be at a serious disadvantage," said Igou.

SourceLabs Continuous Support System includes adaptive diagnostic probes that are fully integrated and configured for customer environments. The probes identify production issues and gather otherwise unavailable diagnostic information, reducing time to resolution. The lightweight probes can be configured so that at the moment trouble occurs, SourceLabs support team extracts key system information needed for diagnosis and triage. The system then performs statistical pattern matching to find root causes and resolutions from a database of hundreds of thousands of failure and issue signatures. The system also enables SourceLabs Security and Vulnerability Notification services, which provide customized, prioritized daily information streams notifying customers of potential production issues and providing proactive measures to avoid costly intrusions or downtime.

Almost two years in development, SourceLabs Continuous Support System includes multiple unique innovations:

o Adaptive diagnostic monitoring probes that simultaneously notify users and SourceLabs of production system failures and can be configured to extract diagnostic information.
o Automated issue acquisition tools that extract more than a thousand information items each day from more than 50 information resources in the Open Source ecosystem.
o A database of over two hundred thousand issue and failure signatures culled from Open Source data sources and correlated using SourceLabs own dynamic metadata model to speed time to root cause analysis and repair.
o Failure signature-matching algorithms that speed time to repair. SourceLabs search algorithms use statistical methods to derive matches that are not readily apparent to human searchers, revealing often hard-to-find causes of software failure.
o Continuous notification, alert and analysis services that keep users informed of significant changes, security issues and software errors, as they are reported from the Open Source ecosystem. These continuous feeds are completely customizable for the different needs of development, operations or security staff.
o Pre-emptive triage and repair services that avert issues before they impact production systems. Each SourceLabs customer receives a daily analysis of potential vulnerabilities that indicates the status of triaged issues.

The SourceLabs Continuous Support System is bundled with SourceLabs SASH for Java Middleware, 7x24 production support contracts, and maintenance and update services to form the SourceLabs Continuous Support Solution for Java Middleware. The comprehensive set of software and support services is available now from SourceLabs on an annual subscription basis. SourceLabs also today released version 1.2 of its SourceLabs SASH Stack for Java, which is available at no charge from the company's web site, and has numerous dependability improvements over the comparable versions available in the open source community.
