Skytide Analytical Platform Showcases Power of IBM DB2 9

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 16 -- Skytide, a leading provider of next-generation analytical solutions, today announced extended integration with IBM DB2 9 to offer companies lightning-fast analysis of XML data. An IBM partner since 2005, Skytide is showcasing its technology this week in the IBM DB2 Viper Zone at the IBM Information On Demand conference in Anaheim, Calif.

IBM's support for pureXML combined with Skytide's support for native XML analytics enables joint customers to achieve a 5 to 10 times performance improvement as compared to a traditional relational database paired with a conventional BI platform. The tight technical integration between Skytide and IBM DB2 9 greatly reduces the amount of data DB2 needs to send back to the Skytide analytical engine and dramatically accelerates analysis.

Key integration advantages include:

o Skytide issues queries to DB2 in XML to select the exact information
needed for analysis, rather than having to select the entire BLOB or
CLOB as when the data is stored in a relational database.

o Skytide generates XQuery expressions on the fly and sends them to DB2
for extremely fast data access, while the Skytide analytical engine
turns this data into measures and dimensions for analytical
applications.

o No tedious and error-prone XML "shredding" into relational tables in
order to analyze XML is required.

"IBM partners such as Skytide are exploiting our new award-winning data server software to help companies uncover previously hidden data that can be used to improve business performance and execution," said Bernie Spang, director of data servers, IBM. "Skytide's commitment to native XML analytics combined with deep support for DB2 9 pureXML showcases what companies can achieve in a pureXML environment."

"The Skytide Analytical Platform uses the power of XML to turn disparate sources of mission-critical corporate data of any size and format into powerful analyses and reports. Customers using IBM DB2 9 benefit from the combination of a native XML data server combined with Skytide's direct multidimensional analysis of XML data. We look forward to working with IBM to continue driving widespread adoption of XML in the enterprise," said Keith Feingold, chief executive officer of Skytide.

Skytide Analytical Platform 2.0 allows companies to understand the root causes behind changes in key business metrics by concurrently analyzing traditional and non-traditional sources of data. By using XML as a common layer to tie together different pieces of the BI stack into an integrated, "virtual" technology stack, Skytide dramatically reduces system complexity while offering advanced functionality that cannot be achieved by traditional BI technology.
