SiRF Announces Agreement Designed to Facilitate the Development of Location-Enabled Services

CTIA, ORLANDO, Fla., March 28: SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRF) today announced an agreement with Motorola that will further enable the global developer community to harness the power of location for application development. Through this agreement, Motorola and SiRF will harmonize their respective location-enabling APIs, making it possible for location applications to be written once, deployed across a wide range of handsets and fully integrated with a mobile device's native applications -- from calling, messaging and browsing to address books, calendars and email.

As a result of this collaboration between SiRF and Motorola, location-based applications developed using SiRF's SiRFstudio platform will work on devices incorporating Motorola's new Location Services Framework and vice versa. All these applications can be integrated with the native applications delivered out-of-the-box with the mobile handset -- such as messaging, contacts, calendar, etc. -- significantly enhancing the experience of location as an intrinsic and useful part of nearly everything they do with their mobile device. By supporting interoperability, both companies aim to simplify and expedite location-enabled application development and extend developer distribution.

"Location-enabled applications such as turn-by-turn navigation or a buddy finder should appear to the user to be an intrinsic part of the handset's basic functionality, integrated with and providing useful extensions to the device's native applications they use the most," said Kanwar Chadha, founder and vice president of marketing for SiRF. "The unification of these location APIs provides the means to integrate them with other LBS applications, making location more relevant to the real-world tasks and activities users engage in with their mobile devices."

"With a wealth of experience delivering location-enabled devices and solutions, Motorola is committed to driving new location services forward and our agreement with SiRF to unify APIs underscores this," said David Harris, Senior Director, Product and Xperience Invention, Motorola. "With the introduction of Motorola's new Location Services Framework and through our collaboration with SiRF, we're enabling the global development community to innovate the next generation of experiences that integrate location in compelling ways for consumers."
