SIKO Products, Inc. announces that all SIKO product lines to meet the European Union directive RoHS2002/95/EG as of July 1st, 2006 and therefore will conform to this directive.
Several products, including the popular MSK5000 linear/rotary encoder sys-tem, currently meet RoHS specifications, ensuring these integrated SIKO sensors to meet the directive before the July 1st, 2006 deadline for manda-tory compliance.
The RoHS Directive stands for Reduction of Hazardous Substances, or the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and elec-tronic equipment. This Directive will ban the placing on the European Union market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. Manufacturers will need to understand the re-quirements of the RoHS Directive to ensure that their products and compo-nents comply.
This Directive aims to protect human health and the environment and mirrors the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The directive applies to electrical and electronic equipment that is dependent on electric or electromagnetic fields for proper operation. It also applies to equipment used for the generation, transfer, and measurement of such cur-rents and fields designed for use with a voltage rating to 1,000 volts for al-ternating current (AC) and 1,500 volts for direct current (DC).
The RoHS/WEEE directive does not call for a total elimination of the listed substances, but mandates that the materials within complaint products con-tain levels of the six restricted substances below the maximum concentration levels.
