SEW-EURODRIVE Celebrates 75th Anniversary

BRUCHSAL, Germany, March 20/

- Full Speed Ahead for Three Quarters of a Century

On its 75th anniversary, SEW-EURODRIVE can look back on a history of landmark developments in drive technology and automation. The foundation for this rapid success story was laid in 1931, when Christian Pähr founded the "Süddeutsche Elektromotoren Werke" in Bruchsal, Germany. But this anniversary is also a reason to look forward: With MOVIGEAR® , the new mechatronic drive concept, and the multiple axis servo drive system MOVIAXIS® , the course is set for a successful future.

The company has had a considerable influence on the development of modern drive technology in the past 75 years and its many innovations have contributed to making the step from industrialisation to the era of modern drive automation. SEW-EURODRIVE has consistently developed the idea of an efficient gear motor, and new manufacturing processes have resulted in continuous performance optimisation and maximum reliability. In the mid-1960s, SEW-EURODRIVE was the first drive technology provider to develop a modular component system for the production of gear motors. From then on, standardised components and component groups facilitated a fast and efficient realisation of drive solutions, standing out not only for their variety, but also for their continuously high quality.

At the same time, SEW-EURODRIVE pushed its international expansion. Following permanently increasing demand from abroad, Ernst Blickle, who had taken the company's lead in 1945, decided to move production and assembly sites for drive systems into the respective local markets in the early 1960s. The first SEW subsidiary was founded in Hagenau, France, in 1960. Today, SEW-EURODRIVE has 11 production and 59 assembly sites and sales agents and representatives in 44 countries.

In addition to many other innovative ideas, the company decided in the early 1990s under Rainer and Jürgen Blickle - the sons of the late Ernst Blickle, who passed away in 1986 - to develop itself electronic motor controls. The electronics production that resulted from that decision today is one of the company's most important businesses and was named
"Factory of the Year" by German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche and French
management school INSEAD.

"Driving the world" is and always will be the company's mission. Through its innovative developments, SEW-EURODRIVE will continue to be a leading technology provider for its customers and partners. In line with its mission statement, the new multiple axis servo drive system MOVIAXIS® with a dynamic control of individual axes follows the latest trend in automation technology, which requires easy machine accessibility, maximum
flexibility and the integration of safety technology. As one of the first mechatronic drive systems, MOVIGEAR® also offers state-of-the-art technology. The integration of optimised drive, motor and electronics within a single system enables users to redesign entire facilities under strategic viewpoints.

With the introduction of MOVIGEAR®, the Bruchsal-based company has
already started to reset the course for the future. Even at the age of 75,
SEW-EURODRIVE remains on the move.
