Seton Hall University Implements Blackboard Backpack

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Agilix Labs, Inc., a worldwide leader in mobile learning solutions, today announced that Seton Hall University has successfully implemented and launched the new Blackboard Backpack application for its students. Introduced today, Blackboard Backpack is a Windows XP application that integrates with the Blackboard Academic Suite, an online course management system from Blackboard Inc.

A private label version of Agilix GoBinder(TM) from Agilix Labs, Inc., Blackboard Backpack enables the 4,500 students at Seton Hall to "mobilize" or synchronize their course content on the Blackboard Academic Suite to the PC application's database, giving them offline access to the learning content. Course content in Blackboard Backpack is organized and displayed within the application exactly how it is online, making it easy for students to use. Blackboard Backpack also gives the students the ability to annotate and highlight the Blackboard content.

"We have made a major investment in the Blackboard Academic Suite for our students," said Seton Hall Chief Information Officer Stephen Landry, Ph.D. "Mobile computing is important to us and giving our students the ability to access course content both online and offline is a powerful capability. We are impressed with Blackboard Backpack's ability to synchronize information with the Academic Suite. This new level of functionality is something we believe our students will use more and more as they get familiar with the product."

"Agilix is excited to work with Seton Hall," said Curt Allen, Agilix president and chief executive officer. "Its Mobile Computing initiative is one of the best we've seen, and Seton Hall has demonstrated a real commitment to its students. Deploying Blackboard Backpack campus-wide not only further leverages its investment in Blackboard, but we believe will enhance student learning to a new level."

In addition to taking Blackboard content offline, Seton Hall students use Blackboard Backpack to get and stay organized, using the application's built-in appointment, task and contact manager to keep track of their schedules and assignments. In addition, they use Blackboard Backpack to interact with lectures, notes and personal knowledge. The application supports digital note-taking, capturing and organizing any Microsoft Office file, PDF and Web content. All information in the Blackboard Backpack database can be highlighted, annotated and searched.
