Seminar Offers Insights into California's Technology Infrastructure Overhaul

Leverage Tech Trends and Initiatives of California Governments

RESTON, Va., Sept. 2 -- Contractors will gain insight into California governments' emerging information technology trends at INPUT and TechAmerica's 6th Annual State Technology Executive Seminar. This event brings together numerous state government executives who will discuss their roles and initiatives in transforming IT infrastructure throughout the state.

This technology overhaul stems from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's executive order, which includes mandates on standardizing IT governance and increasing transparency in spending to achieve greater cost savings, and defines targets to reduce IT operations energy usage by 30 percent by 2012. The following is a list of key government officials and their presentation topics at the event:

o Teri Takai, chief information officer, state of California -- Overview
and historical perspective of California's technology plans

o Mike Locatis, deputy chief information officer, state of California --
Information technology spending in California and an update on the
government's consolidation efforts

o Tom Sheehy, undersecretary and acting secretary, California State and
Consumer Services Agency -- Insight into the state's budget and fiscal
situation and its impact on procurement in California

o Christy Quinlan, chief deputy director, Office of the State Chief
Information Officer, California -- The role of transparency in IT
planning, geographical information systems, and public safety
technologies

o Adrian Farley, chief technology officer and acting director, Office of
Technology Services, California -- California's IT infrastructure,
including developments at the Office of Technology Services, and
information on shared services and new offerings

The event is certainly timely, as California considers several software solutions -- including those based on cloud computing platforms -- and strives to find environmentally friendly and cost-effective technology solutions to fulfill Governor Schwarzenegger's executive order. "Contractors will hear firsthand from the government executives about statewide IT plans," said Jae Corey, content strategist, Events, at INPUT. "The insights and market intelligence they gather at this event will help them align their business development strategies with California governments' objectives."

This seminar also features Chris Dixon, manager, State and Local Government Analysis, INPUT. Dixon was the principal author of State and Local Information Technology Market. This year's forecast illustrates that the demand for vendor-furnished information technology systems and professional services will increase from $52.8 billion in 2010 to $61.5 billion in 2015. He will identify how his research findings apply to California and how other drivers, including the upcoming elections, may influence the state's technology environment. Dixon will also discuss major technology investments within the state of California and top opportunities for technology vendors in 2011 and beyond.
