Scintera Joins Ethernet Alliance

Participation Enables Scintera to Unite in the Collaborative Efforts to Enable Rapid Deployment of IEEE 802 Ethernet Standard Technologies Including 10GBASE-LRM (802.3aq)

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 27 -- Scintera, Inc., the developer of industry leading Gigabit Signal Processor(TM) (GSP(TM)) semiconductor solutions for 10 Gigabit Ethernet LRM and other high-speed communications markets announced today that it has joined the Ethernet Alliance. The Ethernet Alliance is an industry group dedicated to the continued success and expansion of Ethernet technologies. Scintera will play a key role in helping the Ethernet Alliance fulfill its mission to increase industry acceptance and reduce time-to-market of IEEE 802-based products in existing and emerging markets, including 10GBASE-LRM (802.3aq).

"Scintera is a strong supporter of Ethernet and has delivered a low-power, high performance signal processing platform that allows enterprise customers to cost-effectively upgrade their existing fiber infrastructures from 1GE to 10GE," said John Monson, vice president of sales and marketing at Scintera. "Ethernet has become and continues to evolve as the primary form of connectivity, and we look forward to working with the Alliance to continue its advancement."

"From the beginning, Scintera has been a key influence in driving the IEEE 802.3aq standard to enable enterprise networks to support 10GE," said Brad Booth, president of the Ethernet Alliance. "We welcome such a technology leader as Scintera, and we look forward to their contributions to help promote, develop and further spread IEEE 802 Ethernet and synergistic technologies."

Members of the Ethernet Alliance include: 3COM, ADC, Agere Systems, AMCC, Aquantia, Broadcom, Force10 Networks, Foundry Networks, Intel, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, Pioneer Corporation, Quake Technologies, Samsung, Sun Microsystems, Tehuti Networks, Tyco Electronics, The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), Xilinx and others.

About 10GBASE-LRM (IEEE 802.3aq)

10GBASE-LRM is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard initiated to provide a low cost, low power upgrade of the enterprise uplinks, datacenter and backbone connections already deployed in the network. The standard enables a low cost serial transmission of 10Gb/s over greater than 220 meters of multimode fiber (MMF). Top module and OEM vendors are quickly moving to adopt the standard.
