Sandvine and Comptel Complete Interoperability Testing of Policy Control and Charging Solutions

Joint solution enables 3G and 4G operators to better manage and monetize their mobile broadband services

HELSINKI, Finland - 3 March 2011 - Comptel Corporation (NASDAQ OMX Helsinki: CTL1V), the leading vendor of dynamic Operations Support System (OSS) software, today announced that it has completed interoperability testing with Sandvine Incorporated, (TSX:SVC; AIM:SAND) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators. The tests demonstrated how policy and charging rules managed by Comptel Control and Charge could be enforced in the network by Sandvine's Policy Traffic Switch based on real-time inspection of the network traffic. The joint solution enables communications service providers (CSPs) to offer and manage advanced data services while optimizing network usage, resulting in an improved customer user experience overall.

The 3GPP-compliant solution consists of Comptel Control and Charge for the Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) and Online Charging System (OCS), and Sandvine's Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) for both Network Policy Control and for the Policy and Charging Enforcement Function (PCEF). In addition, Comptel Subscriber Profile Repository is used for storing subscription information related to the policies and charging models that are applied.

Key Facts

o Comptel Control and Charge is an integrated, modular solution that brings together, on a single platform Comptel's existing, proven solutions for policy control and charging. Applications of the solution include fair usage control, radio access network congestion control and roaming cost control.

o Comptel Control and Charge and Sandvine PTS support the industry-standard interfaces for both policy control (Gx) and charging (Gy). The Gx interface provides transfer of policy and charging rules from PCRF to PCEF while the Gy interface allows online charging based on the Diameter credit control application between the OCS and the PCEF.

o Sandvine's integrated network policy control solutions provide accurate traffic identification, real-time policy decision, breadth of policy enforcement actions, and flexible reporting and modelling tools to meet the business needs of CSPs. The in-line PTS delivers finely granular context-awareness and enforcement capabilities with the carrier-grade reliability necessary for high-scale, revenue-critical applications.
