Saline Lectronics, Inc. Differentiates from the Rest with Seica Pilot 4D V8 Flying Probe Tester

Saline Lectronics, Inc., a leading electronics contract manufacturer, recently purchased and installed a Seica Pilot 4D V8 Flying Probe Tester. This new system further enhances Saline Lectronics' testing capabilities and will allow the company to better support each of its clients' unique testing requirements.

The Pilot 4D V8 represents the latest frontier in flying probe test technology. It is the complete solution for maximum performance, offering the highest test speed for low- to medium-volume requirements. The test coverage and flexibility of the unit is ideal for prototyping situations and has an enhanced feature to help with the repairing of any type of board. Its vertical architecture is the optimum solution for probing both sides of the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) simultaneously, eliminating added stress or flex to the unit under test (UUT).

"This new Pilot 4D V8 tester will allow us to test boards under development and small, pilot runs in a more efficient manner," commented Tom Neman, Test Engineering Manager. "The fixtureless testing gives us the flexibility to easily tailor testing to the requirements of the assemblies undergoing any design changes."

Lectronics' new Seica Pilot 4D V8 has a 16 mobile resource to test PCBAs with eight electrical flying probes, two open-fix mobile probes, two mobile power probes, two cameras and two thermal probes. These power probes are used to power up the UUT without requiring any additional wiring.  The high-resolution cameras will make the flying probe process incredibly precise and create a smarter, intuitive tester. Also, they will scan serial barcodes automatically, keeping with Lectronics' traceability requirements.

Lectronics procured this system with several enhanced test options, including a diagnostic tool, offline programming capabilities, an enhanced offline repair station license, and the Siemens CAD translator software package. The Diagnostic Expert System will help to streamline the troubleshooting process, and allow Lectronics' Test Engineers to better analyze the root cause for failures. Extending this troubleshooting assistance, the repair station license will allow Lectronics' repair technicians to pull up a visual representation in-station of the UUT with the faults flashing on-screen in order to see firsthand the required repair.

The CAD translator software supports more than 40 translators and will allow Lectronics' test technicians to program the machine with any type of CAD program. Additionally, Lectronics opted for the universal board frame feature that supports any type of circuit board assembly including those with irregular shape and dimensions.

With the Seica Pilot 4D V8 Flying Probe Tester, Saline Lectronics is properly equipped to support a wide range of testing requirements. Lectronics will increase its testing flexibility by running prototype units, production boards and repair units all on this new flying probe system.
