Rohde & Schwarz and Samsung First to Verify LTE Advanced Uplink Carrier Aggregation
Share:
In a joint effort, Rohde Schwarz and Samsung have successfully tested and verified the Release 10 feature – uplink carrier aggregation. They used a Samsung internal test device with a Samsung SHANNON300 modem chipset as DUT and tested it with an LTE-Advanced-ready R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester. Â
 Â
Munich — Rohde & Schwarz and Samsung reached a significant milestone in the commercial implementation of LTE-Advanced by successfully verifying uplink carrier aggregation in the real form factor. The tested Samsung DUT, a 6.3 inch real form factor test device, supports two transmissions with a single SHANNON300 baseband chipset, making the SHANNON300 the world's first LTE-Advanced ASIC chipset to verify uplink carrier aggregation. Commercial devices with two transmission antennas are currently still a challenge. In the future, uplink carrier aggregation and uplink MIMO will be required for the demanding uplink throughput of wireless Internet services such as multi-media upload to cloud servers.  Â
 Â
The R&S CMW500 is the first test platform that offers both Release 10 reference implementation for downlink carrier aggregation and now also a verified implementation to test uplink carrier aggregation in LTE-FDD. This allows users in the mobile device market, such as chipset and wireless device manufacturers as well as test houses, to perform protocol and performance tests on chipsets and devices supporting LTE-Advanced uplink carrier aggregation.  Â
 Â
The R&S CMW500 is able to test handsets without limitations in all bands and bandwidth combinations defined by 3GPP. When testing handsets' carrier aggregation capabilities with the R&S CMW500, the throughput in downlink and uplink can be verified by setting up real end-to-end data connections to the built-in IP servers – no matter what the handset is using, TD-LTE or LTE-FDD. Â
 Â
R&S CMW-KP597 for Release 10 uplink carrier aggregation is now available for the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester from Rohde & Schwarz. With the addition of this feature and the already available downlink carrier aggregation support, the R&S CMW500 is ready now to also verify LTE CAT7 devices (downlink 300 Mbps, uplink 100 Mbps). Â
