ReignCom and Nanoradio Partner to Set New Standard with iRiver WiFi-Based GPS Portable Media Player

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 16 - Nanoradio's low power WiFi chipset has been selected for the WiFi-based iRiver W10 GPS portable media player by Korean manufacturer, ReignCom. The chipset's low power and small size were critical selection criteria. Reigncom has plans for a range of products based on the W10 platform and will be launching more models later this year and in 2008.

The iRiver W10 made an impact at 2007 CES through some innovative features. It is only14 mm thick and comes loaded with full-function multimedia capabilities.

In addition to playing music, games and movies it can navigate and retrieve information about what's in the local area. The device comes pre-loaded with a mobile search guide that helps the users to locate and navigate to local services such as banks, restaurants and shops. The iRiver W10 is also pre-loaded with Navteq maps, including points of interest. Rather than using standard GPS, it will determine the user's location by checking which WiFi spots are detected in the area. The media player will be launched to consumers in the US during the third quarter of this year and then to operators in Europe and Korea.

The Nanoradio WiFi chipset offers fully tested 802.11b,g functionality, enabling wireless speeds up to 54Mbps, and featuring ultra-low power consumption in all modes (0.3mW in WLAN standby mode). The power amplifier
(PA) and cellular RF filter are integrated, and no external components are required, resulting in a cost-effective chipset solution. Another benefit is on-chip support for HiFi stereo audio. The chipset is designed to meet the requirements from the Fix-Mobile Convergence Alliance of leading global Operators.
