California Signs on to New York Contract to Accelerate Purchase of Hazardous Incident Response Equipment

SAN JOSE, CA - 01/20/2009 - RAE Systems Inc., a leading global developer and manufacturer of rapidly deployable, multi-sensor chemical and radiation detection monitors and networks for industrial applications and homeland security, announced that the State of California has signed on to the New York State Hazardous Incident Response Equipment (HIRE) purchasing contract. (California State Contract PC 61968). California now joins Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oregon, Oklahoma and Virginia as particpants in the New York Contract. Adoption of this contract permits all participating State, County and Municipal entities to procure RAE Systems instruments and equipment without a formalized bid process.

"The benefits provided by the contract include guaranteed pricing on RAE Systems portable instruments and RAE Systems' wireless products, including: AreaRAE Rapid Deployment Kits and many associated wireless products," said G. Robert Ladzinski, RAE Systems NY State Hire Contract Manager. "This contract gives first responders and buyers a tool to get the right equipment at the right price."

RAE Systems will show its personal, portable and wireless toxic gas and radiation solutions at the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers Educational Conference and Vendor Expo (CAPPO CONFERENCE) being held at the Marriott San Francisco Airport Hotel on January 20, 2009.

The NY H.I.R.E. contract came about after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the need to expedite the purchase of mission critical equipment. The contract has been used in other states to properly equip first responders for both public venue protection and large-scale response events. The contract also gives end users of the equipment a tool to work more closely with procurement officials to deal with local participating RAE Systems distributors, who now can provide local training. The value to procurement officers is less time for procurement and lower cost. There is no obligation to purchase off the contract; it just simplifies the process for those that do.
