Precision Wire Components Fabricator Finds Manufacturing to be More than Fun and Games
CT-based Acme Wire Products uses trivia game, hands-on demonstrations to teach students about potential careers and opportunities in manufacturing.
MYSTIC, CT - Precision wire components fabricator Acme Wire Products Co. Inc. is observing Connecticut's "Manufacturing Month" with a game attitude and an eye toward the future.
Mary Planeta Fitzgerald, president of the Mystic-based wire form manufacturer, is developing a manufacturing trivia game to unveil this month at the Career Fair at Oakdale, CT's Montville High School as well as the Manufacturing Open House at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, CT.
Students who correctly answer questions related to manufacturing and Acme Wire Products will be able to win a promotional item, Fitzgerald said, adding that the company's participation is aimed at providing more than just a fun diversion for participants.
"We want students to understand that manufacturing and technology present a variety of satisfying, fulfilling career opportunities," she said. "We also want to highlight the skills and education required for a successful career in today's manufacturing environment."
The open house at Three Rivers also gives the precision wire components maker [link to www.acmewire.com/index.php/capabilities/entry/increased-strength-reduced/] the chance to demonstrate hands-on applications of topics that the community college students are learning in the classroom.
"We also plan to underscore the various technical career pathways available in manufacturing," Fitzgerald said.
Another feature of the precision wire component maker's presentation will include a display of the wire face masks that Acme Wire Products manufactures for lacrosse and football helmet customers.
"We'll show the evolution of the wire face masks from a manufacturing and style focus," Fitzgerald, noting that 2012 marks an important milestone for the company.
"Acme Wire Products has reached the achievement of manufacturing over 1.5 million lacrosse masks for one of our customers," she said. "We look forward to a long future of manufacturing many more masks and other precision wire components in Connecticut."
Gov. Dannel Malloy declared October as Manufacturing Month to honor Connecticut's companies and workers who strengthen the state's economy. But Acme Wire Products also sees the month as a venue to reach the next generation of manufacturers.
