Polycom Named an Official Wireless Handset Provider for Interop Las Vegas 2007

Polycom's SpectraLink Wi-Fi Telephones Featured in InteropNet and InteropLabs

PLEASANTON, Calif., May 15 / -- Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLCM), the leader in unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced that it has been selected as an Official Network Provider for the InteropNet at Interop Las Vegas 2007. Polycom is deploying 50 SpectraLink NetLink 8030 Wireless Telephones to the InteropNet team, to facilitate mobile communications for the tradeshow's demanding wireless environment. The SpectraLink handsets will be operating over a Xirrus Wi-Fi network tied to an Avaya IP communication server, both part of the InteropNet.

The InteropNet is built in collaboration with leading vendors utilizing hand-selected products that can support a wide range of applications and connectivity services including voice, video and data for over 18,000 attendees and 450 exhibitors. The InteropNet represents the most demanding network environment and is a real-world demonstration of optimum business IT performance and integration. Interop Las Vegas runs from May 20 - 25 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

The NetLink 8000 Series handsets were the first voice over Wi-Fi handsets to support the IEEE 802.11a, b and g radio standards, allowing businesses to choose the most appropriate Wi-Fi implementation for application segmentation, interference mitigation and user density. Demonstrating Wi-Fi telephony in an environment like the Interop exhibit hall is challenging due to the large number of Wi-Fi products operating in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum. The NetLink 8030 handsets for InteropNet will utilize the 5 GHz 802.11a spectrum, which offers more channels to mitigate interference from different Wi-Fi networks. As a result, InteropNet staffers will have reliable voice connectivity regardless of the level of Wi-Fi activity.

"Year after year, the InteropNet is designed and built through the collaboration of the industry's most resourceful and dynamic IT professionals and technology providers, providing attendees with a functional demonstration of business technology excellence," said Lenny Heymann, Interop General Manager. "This year's hand-selected list of distinguished participants, such as Polycom, will ensure that Interop continues to lead the industry in network innovation, even in the face of changing business practices."

Beyond their participation in the InteropNet, Polycom will have a significant presence throughout the Interop Las Vegas conference. Geri Mitchell-Brown, director of technical business development for the Polycom wireless business unit, will participate in a panel titled "Wi-Fi: The Revolution Continues" Tuesday, May 22 at 10:15 a.m. Moderated by Greg Ennis, technical director at the Wi-Fi Alliance, the panel will focus on the key developments in 802.11 and Wi-Fi, explore the technology roadmap, discuss upgrade strategies, and provide a broad range of practical advice and guidance for the enterprise.

Polycom is also providing its NetLink e340 Wireless Telephones for the InteropLabs program, the world's only real-time live interoperability test bed for the latest networking technologies. The InteropLabs will showcase the latest solutions to real engineering challenges in a live, vendor-neutral, standards-based arena and will focus this year on two primary initiatives: Network Access Control and VoIP security and integration. The InteropLabs give attendees the opportunity to test-drive new products and technologies based on performance, not marketing claims.

In addition to supplying SpectraLink wireless phones and handsets for the InteropNet and InteropLabs programs, Polycom will also showcase its latest solutions for HD Voice and HD video in support of the Unified Collaboration theme at its booth. Polycom high definition voice, video and content solutions deliver an exceptional Polycom Experience that is just like being there for people who communicate and collaborate with each other from a distance. Polycom's communications and collaboration tools enable people to work smarter, with better results and greater satisfaction while they increase a company's productivity, efficiency and ability to compete. The Polycom UltimateHD solution featured in the Polycom booth is the industry's only end to end high definition solution, and includes HD voice and video endpoints as well as HD content sharing, archiving and streaming, HD network management and real time media conferencing server for continuous presence HD multipoint calls.

"We are very pleased to be participating on so many different levels at Interop Las Vegas this year," said Ben Guderian, vice president of marketing and product management for Polycom's wireless business unit. "We have a long history of demonstrating our commitment to interoperability and introducing new products at Interop, and we're glad to have the opportunity to support the InteropNet staff with enterprise-grade, standards-based Wi-Fi telephony to improve communications throughout the event."
