It is with regret that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), announces the departure of Steven Bipes, senior director, international policy - regional and bilateral programs, from the Institute effective October 7, 2009. Steven has accepted the position of executive director of the Brazil - U.S. Business Council where he will serve as the chief staff person leading and representing the U.S. business community on all issues pertaining to doing business in Brazil.

Mr. Bipes joined ANSI's international policy team nearly six years ago, originally focusing on staffing the Institute's three Regional Standing Committees. Since then he has actively participated in the work of the Pacific Area Standards Congress, the Pan American Standards Commission, and in ANSI's meetings with the European Standards Organizations and the European Commission, and related areas such as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation's Subcommittee on Standards and Conformance. Over the course of these years Steven worked to expand the Institute's regional and bilateral activities to include very focused and successful programs in both China and India, to pursue other international development opportunities with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency such as the Vietnam Standards Training Program, and to greatly expand our interaction with U.S. government departments, in particular the Department of Commerce (DOC).

ANSI thanks Mr. Bipes for his service and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.
