PageTech Becomes First US Member of the PDF/A Competence Center

San Diego, CA. - November 16, 2006: PageTech, the leading provider of PCL transformation tools for developers, today announced that it has become the first US member of the PDF/A Competence Center (PDFA.ORG). Headquartered in Berlin, Germany, the PDF/A organization is a liaison of the world's foremost companies in PDF technology. The aim of the PDF/A Competence Center is to promote the exchange of information and experience in the area of long-term archiving in accordance with the new International Standards Organization's ISO 19005: PDF/A file format.

The new PDF/A standard is a product of over three years of collaboration by AIIM, Adobe, NPES, ARMA, NARA, Library of Congress, US Courts and many other organizations. It was necessary to define this device-independent and self-contained derivative of the PDF format that could be internationally accepted as the new standard for long-term electronic archiving. PDF/A is also self-documenting (with XMP metatags) and transparent to direct analysis with basic tools for indexing. Because of its various benefits, PDF/A will eventually replace TIFF format as the de facto standard for document archiving.

Earlier this year, PageTech was the first PCL to PDF product vendor to convert PCL raster image and character objects into the smallest PDFs using the Adobe's JBIG2 compression method. PageTech encourages anyone interested in evaluating their new PCL to PDF/A with JBIG2 compression capabilities to go to its website and download the fully functional PCLTool SDK product for evaluation. The SDK includes PageTech's full suite of tools and all product documentation.
