ON DEMAND Microelectronics (ODM) Is Expanding to Japan

Vienna, 22. June 2006 - ON DEMAND Microelectronics (ODM), leading supplier of IP and SoC-solutions for mobile and high-definition DTV- and Multimedia applications, opened up a branch in Tokyo, Japan on 1 June 2006. In order to provide optimal service for their customers in the Japanese metropolis, ODM decided to establish their own team. By expanding the company reacts to the positive development of previous business in Asia. The recently introduced platform PICTOR offers a new scalable technology for high-end video and image processing solutions, which are highly acknowledged in the high-definition TV and mobile phone markets dominating Japan. With already 6 million households being equipped with HDTV devices, Japan is world leader in this development. For the year 2010 the number of HD-capable households is estimated to be about 174 million in the world, which means that 66 % of all Japanese households would be using this format. Due to its scalability PICTOR meets the extreme low-power requirements of mobile devices and is therefore especially interesting for the mobile phone market. According to marketing research institutes Japan, more than any other country, will show a persistent increase in this market in the next couple of years. Together with the Asia-Pacific-Region it makes up 50 % of today's world market.

Head of the new Japanese branch is Kazuaki Okawa, an insider in the Japanese semiconductor market. Until recently Okawa was employed in the board of managers and as Director of Strategic Solutions in companies like ARC International Inc., Nihon Synopsys or inSilicon. "I am looking forward to this new challenge. Lately we have already built up a considerable stock of customers in Japan which we have well served", says Okawa. "It is the permanent local presence, though, that now enables us even better to respond to the needs of our customers." Okawa´s primary goal is the further development and establishment of ODM´s leading role in the Japanese market. With the help of his experienced team Okawa will be able to provide for the product portfolio and on-site support.
