Nottinghamshire County Council selects MapInfo Confirm(TM) to deliver on Highway Services Best Value Review Recommendations

February 10, 2006 - MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announces that Nottinghamshire County Council has selected MapInfo Confirm(TM) as the software solution for the provision of a far reaching integrated Highways Asset Management System.

The selection of MapInfo Confirm came following an EU-wide tender process to identify the most effective solution to meet the findings of the Authority's Highway Services Best Value Review, completed in 2003. One of the main recommendations of the Review was to procure an integrated Highways Asset Management System.

"Like numerous local authorities up and down the country, we knew that it was becoming increasingly critical to improve our highways asset management, create efficient inventory systems and establish an integrated system to address the condition of the road network, to co-ordinate roadworks and manage access to services and response times," says Bernard Younger, Team Manager, Network Management, Dept of Environment, Nottinghamshire County Council.

"The recommendations of the Highways Services Best Value Review did not come as a great surprise, but provided us with the catalyst we needed to make the jump to implement a wholly integrated system to address our asset maintenance and make wide reaching improvements in our processes across the transport infrastructure."

The deployment of Confirm will initially address:

o Customer Services

o Asset Inventory

o Highways Inspection

o Bridges and Structures

o Streetworks

Confirm's Street Works modules will assist the County in complying with the implications of the Traffic Management Act (TMA) - the entire deployment is scheduled to take approximately 18 months.

Bernard Younger continues: "Historically, we have operated disparate systems, unable to talk to each other, which, whilst still effectively serving the purpose, have become increasingly inefficient in the face of transport and e-Govt directives. With Confirm, we expect to run a seamless and highly efficient asset management operation across the county, delivering on current and future transport directives and effectively serving our customers and the community."

"Confirm brings to Nottinghamshire County Council a truly holistic solution, centralising Highways asset data to deliver on the Highways Services Best Value Review recommendations," comments Mick Robson, Confirm Sales Manager, MapInfo.

"A fully integrated Highways Asset Management System like Confirm will provide facilities for the management of the entire highway network, including all associated highways assets. Confirm will instil a degree of discipline in how the council manages its highway network and establish a consistent approach in management and maintenance across the county. We are delighted to have been selected by Nottinghamshire County Council and look forward to seeing the organisation reap the rewards of this investment."

Nottinghamshire County Council selected MapInfo Confirm from an initial 45 tenders. Its ultimate selection was based on its proven ability to deliver the required integrated system and competitive pricing.
